Samir Beydoun, M.D.

Dr. Beydoun is certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in maternal-fetal medicine by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He received his medical doctor degree from the American University of Beirut (Beirut, Lebanon), where he also completed residency in obstetrics and gynecology. He obtained fellowship training in maternal-fetal medicine at the Upstate Medical Center, State University of New York (Syracuse, NY).

Gene Burkett, M.D.

Dr. Burkett is the interim director of the department’s Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. He is certified in obstetrics and gynecology in both England and the United States (American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology). He is a graduate of the University of London, University College of the West Indies (Mona, Jamaica), where he also completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology. Additionally, he completed a fellowship at St. Mary’s Hospital (London, England). Dr. Burkett obtained a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine from the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Burkett’s clinical interests include complicated medical conditions during pregnancy such as systemic lupus, hypertension, and diabetes, management of multiple pregnancies and recurrent pregnancy losses, vaginal birth after previous cesarean and treatment of pregnant women with substance abuse problems.

Makbib Diro, M.D.

Dr. Diro is certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a graduate of the University of Zagreb School of Medicine (Zagreb, Croatia), where he obtained his medical degree. He went on to complete residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center (Brooklyn, NY). He obtained a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Freddy J. Montero, M.D.

Dr. Montero is certified in obstetrics and gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He graduated from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 2004 and continued his training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital, completing an obstetrics and gynecology residency in 2008. In 2011, Dr. Montero completed fellowship training in maternal-fetal medicine at Columbia University Medical Center. He worked for three years as a maternal-fetal medicine specialist in private practice on the Gulf coast of Florida before joining UM. His clinical interests include prenatal diagnosis, management of medical complications during pregnancy, and preterm labor.
